KAMLOOPS — Strengthened fire bans in the Kamloops Fire Centre will take effect today.
In a news release, the B.C. Wildfire Service says Category 2 and Category 3 fires — meaning any fire larger than a campfire — will be prohibited as of 12:00 noon on June 11.
In addition to the Category 2 and 3 burns, the prohibition also extends to fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels.
The order is projected to last until October 15, or until rescinded by the B.C. Wildfire Service.
Anyone caught contravening the prohibition may be subject to a fine of $1,150 or more.
