BDO provides update on forensic audit of TNRD
During the most recent Thompson Nicola Regional District board meeting, Simon Padgett from BDO provided a brief update into the ongoing forensic audit of the TNRD’s books.
“We commenced on May 5th; I was actually on site. It’s very important that when we do investigations that we do have an element of being on site,” said Padgett. “We gathered some background information and had initial discussions with senior management. TNRD has provided us with a lot of records and documents.”
Padgett mentioned that most of the data analytics in the case will be carried out in Vancouver.
“You have to understand we don’t dig deep into and start onto the issue we’re looking at, we have to gather as much data as we can surrounding it so we can get a full picture of why this happened and how to correct it. The investigation is certainly in it’s infancy,” said Padgett.
“We have to discover how we’ll avail the correct evidence. There are ways of getting evidence so its admissible to the police, the courts or both,” added Padgett.
No questions were asked by the board following the presentation as they’re staying at arms-length from the investigation.
The regional district’s Board of Directors voted 25-1 in favour of conducting the third-party review after a bombshell report by Kamloops This Week showing more than $517,000 in expenses claimed by former CAO Sukh Gill.
The board budgeted $75,000 for the audit.
