Conayt receives provincial funding for men’s wellness group
Communities and families dealing with gun and gang violence, individuals experiencing gender-based violence and Indigenous families healing from traumas will receive more than $8.6 million in grants to support community-based crime prevention and remediation initiatives.
In total, 221 projects are receiving one-time grants through the Civil Forfeiture Crime Prevention and Remediation grant program. These projects are led by not-for-profits, local governments, school districts and more.
Locally, the Conayt Friendship Society is receiving $11,440 to fund the Conayt Healing and Wellness Group.
The project will work with up to 30 men ages 18 years and up in the Merritt Area involving Cultural Knowledge, Activities, Skills, and Ceremonies.
The program will bring knowledge Keepers and local Elders to teach the men about the local surrounding areas Culture. They will be taught their medicine wheel and learn how to balance each section, physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental, for a healthy functional life.
