Merritt renews advertising agreement with Centennials

The City of Merritt has entered into a new three-year advertising agreement with the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials.
The new contract is the first written agreement in over a decade as the organization and City had been working on a handshake deal for years.
“From a financial perspective, the advertising has much greater value because of the Centennials than it would without them, so it is reasonable to ascribe the benefit of the advertising revenue to their organization,” said Recreation Manager Sky McKeown.
“Further, the Hockey Club depends on the advertising revenue to maintain the financial viability of the program. Continuing with an advertising agreement will assist the Hockey Club in their fundraising efforts and provide an overall benefit to the community,” added McKeown.
In the agreement the City of Merritt forgoes revenue from the advertising sales.
“The City of Merritt is also foregoing the expense of hiring a full-time staff member who would manage the advertising program,” continued McKeown.
