KAMLOOPS — As of Tuesday (May 4), anyone 52 or over who’s registered for their COVID-19 vaccine can book their appointment.
Although if people between the ages of 30 and 50 have the option to get a vaccine at a pharmacy, Interior Health Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Albert de Villiers recommends getting one as soon as possible.
“We’re not going to get [between 30 to 50] for the next few weeks with our regular campaign,” de Villiers said.
Pharmacy registration and the province’s Get Vaccinated System are still separate entities.
“Eventually, the plan is to get those systems to work a little bit closer,” de Villiers said. “As soon as we get there, the information will be [available] to both systems, and you’ll be safe for your second dose as well.”
Currently there are no pharmacies in Merritt administrating the vaccine, the closest location being Kamloops.
B.C.’s age cohort will drop by two years every two days. Health Minister Adrian Dix said anyone 50 and over will be eligible to book their appointment on Thursday (May 6).
