This week Merritt was talking about the wildfire burning Northwest of town, Hamilton Hill proceeding without a casino, the extension of COVID-19 extensions, and a Corvette driver caught doubling the speed limit on the Coquihalla.
Petit Creek fire west of Merritt now being held
The Thompson-Nicola Regional has now lifted all evacuation alerts surrounding the Petit Creek wildfire.
Hamilton Hill development moved to public hearing
For a second time, Merritt City Council has directed staff to schedule a public hearing regarding the Hamilton Hill development out past Exit 286.
Council had already approved second reading of an OCP and zoning amendment for the property in March, however the developer has since removed the casino from the plan.
BC COVID-19 restrictions extended through May long weekend
The BC Government is set to extend the current COVID-19 restrictions for an additional five weeks, through to the end of the May long weekend.
Corvette caught going 243 km/hr on Coquihalla
“An officer with BC RCMP Traffic Services in Merritt was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 5 about 35 kilometres south of Merritt when his in-car radar unit captured a northbound Corvette traveling at over twice the speed limit – 243 kilometres per hour, to be exact,” wrote Cpl. Mike Halskov.
