Merritt Mounties investigating a string of dumpster fires
On Tuesday (April 6) morning, the Merritt Fire Department was called out to a fire in a commercial garbage dumpster. The responding crew was able to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading.
According to Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson, the Tuesday morning fire was just the latest in a recent spike of similar fires across the City.
“There have been several dumpster fires over the past two weeks,” stated Chief Tomkinson.
Tomkinson confirmed that the Merritt RCMP had been notified of the fires.
“We are investigating the dumpster fires that have been occurring around town and are following up on some leads. We’d like to ask anyone with information pertaining to the fires to please call the Merritt RCMP,” said RCMP Sgt. Josh Roda.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can also call Crime Stoppers.
