The City’s Airport Advisory Committee was established prior to the pandemic to help support and lead the work needed at the Merritt Airport to bring it up to standard.
“I’m very pleased with how they’re working,” said Committee Chair, Councillor Kurt Christopherson. “We were running a little short-handed, and had two vacancies.”
To fill out the committee, Council appointed Gregory Messner and Phil Braig at the last meeting. The appointments were made unanimously.
Recently the Merritt Airport received $90,000 in grant funding from the provincial government.
City of Merritt Communications Manager Will George stated the funding will be used to cover expenses to operate the Merritt Airport, including fuel purchases and ongoing maintenance, like crack sealing, and building maintenance.
“Lots of new projects up there and especially with the airport community they’re providing quite a bit of input and thoughts for growth up there. It’s great to have that community engagement,” added George.
