The BC Wildfire Service is reporting that a wildfire has sparked just South of Merritt near the Coldwater Reserve.
The fire was first discovered on Sunday April 4, 2021 and at this time is considered to be active. It’s estimated at six hectares.
The blaze is suspected to be human caused.
The BC Wildfire Service has confirmed that as of Monday morning the fire has not grown in size and that the Coldwater Band’s fire department is the leading the fight.
“We have one crew going out there today to do a little bit of patrol,” said Fire Information Officer Sarah Bennett.
Its expected that the fire’s status will move from ‘out of control’ to ‘being contained’ later this morning.
