Merritt man charged with possession contrary to an order
On October 5, 2020, a Merritt man was arrested for allegedly driving while prohibited. A search incidental to his arrest led police to find the man was in possession of ammunition contrary to an order imposed by the courts.
On March 23, 2021, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of possession contrary to an order against Mr. Travis Crantz of Merritt. Mr. Crantz is currently in custody awaiting trial for multiple charges.
Man criminally charged for alleged theft from local liquor store
On February 24, 2021, a suspect allegedly stole a bottle of liquor from the BC Liquor Store in Merritt.
The entire shoplifting incident was caught on video surveillance camera. The suspect was located a day later by police and arrested.
On March 25, 2021, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of theft under $5,000 against Mr. Rodney Brignall. He is set to appear in court on June 1, 2021.
No charges for a Merritt man in possession of stolen debit cards and cheques
On February 2, 2021, a Merritt man attended a local financial institution and attempted to draw funds, allegedly using a stolen debit card.
The suspect, who was allegedly found in possession of multiple stolen cards and cheques, was arrested at the scene.
The findings of the police investigation were provided to the BC Prosecution Service for charge consideration. On March 21, 2021, Crown Counsel determined it was not in the public’s interest to proceed with charges in the matter.
