Shackan Indian Band elects new Chief

Arnold Lampreau has been elected Chief of the Shackan Indian Band defeating Incumbent Jordan Joe in Saturday’s vote.
Lampreau secured 30 votes for the office of Chief, Jordan Joe received 19, and Lennard Joe grabbed 20.
A total of 69 votes were cast by the community, with 36 votes being cast in-person, 12 through mail-in balloting, and 21 electronic votes were counted.
Serving on Council will be Lindsay Tighe and Yvonne Joe. Tighe secured the most votes for council with 38 followed by Joe with 37.
The newly-elected Chief and Council will serve a three-year term.
