Merritt applying for grant funding to improve trails
Through a unanimous vote Tuesday (March 23) evening, Merritt City Council has approved a motion to have staff apply for grant funding to improve the trails near Rotary and Central Park.
“The trails in Rotary Park are in poor condition and in need of improvements. In recent years, low points on the pathway have filled with water, creating pools to be avoided. Although some users walk along high points in the grass, this option is not accessible to all ages and abilities,” said Recreation Manager Sky McKeown.
The City is applying for $249,373 of 100% grant funding to improve the existing paths and expand the network.
“In addition to improving and widening the existing pathway, there is an opportunity to connect the Rotary and Central Park pathways with the multi-use path on Voght St in two places,” added McKeown.
The project is divided into two phases and the grant funding would be used to complete phase one only.
