Spring Bank development public hearing goes Tuesday
Spring Bank conceptual site plan
Merritt City Council will be holding a public hearing tomorrow to consider the proposed development at 2640 Spring Bank Avenue.
The proposal received first and second reading back in January through a tight 4-3 vote. Councillors Adam Etchart, Melvina White, and Mike Bhangu opposed.
“The property owner has re-envisioned their proposed development from the former seniors only model and, if rezoning is approved, would construct an inter-generational affordable housing development on the property,” said Planning Manager Don McArthur.
“BC Housing has committed funding support for the proposed development,” added McArthur.
BC Housing has stated that the Province, through BC Housing, Nicola Native Lodge Society and Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), are working on a proposed housing project to build 40 new affordable rental homes for Indigenous Peoples in Merritt. These homes are geared to families, singles and Elders.
The current proposal outlines, 15 studio units for youth and elders, 17 one-bedroom for elders, six two-bedroom for families and six three-bedroom for families. The housing will also have two units specifically designed for residents who need wheelchair accessibility.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 pm Tuesday (March 23).
