Procedure bylaw adopted
Merritt City Council has adopted a new procedure bylaw.
The bylaw speaks mostly to the internal workings of council and staff during meetings but does bring two changes that will affect the public.
“Staff are continuing to recommend the Bylaw as considered by Council, as this increases visibility and transparency for all residents rather than merely those who can attend City Hall in-person, and the public access and information provisions are improved and made clearer,” wrote Director of Corporate Services Greg Lowis.
The comment from Lowis was regarding switching the official notice board at the City from an actual board in city hall to the city’s website. Notice will continue to be posted in city hall, just the official notice place is changing.
The other major change for citizens is that meetings will now begin at 6 pm.
