KAMLOOPS — The ASK Wellness Society’s chief executive officer has been recognized with an award from the Governor General of Canada.
Bob Hughes was unveiled in February as one of 98 Canadians who will receive Meritorious Service Decorations.
Hughes was nominated by longtime Kamloops educator Chris Rose, who sat on the ASK Wellness Board of Directors from 2012 to 2020.
According to a news release, Meritorious Service Decorations “recognize individuals for work or actions that are performed in a highly professional manner and have brought benefit or honour to Canada.”
“As you can imagine, I was overwhelmed,” Hughes was quoted in the news release. “I had thought they were calling for a reference for someone else. I thought of my kids and my family and how they would be proud of me; in particular, my mom who believed in giving more than taking.”
