Council passes pair of financial amendments
Merritt City Council recently passed a pair of financial amendments. One of changes was described by staff as housekeeping items to correct the record for the 2020 financial plan.
“During the August 27, 2019 council meeting, a report was presented recommending the approval of the contract for the purchase of the Fire Pumper Tender for $479,575 with direction to staff “to increase the 2020 capital budget for the Pumper Tender by $80,000”.The additional $80k was to come from general revenue,” wrote Finance Director Wayne Anderson.
Council was also correcting the record with regards to funding for the Fraser Basin Water Council and flood hazard mapping.
“There is no financial risk with these amendments, and they are required to correct the official record,” added Anderson.
The other was to pre-approve items for the 2021 budget.
“Department managers have identified 5 projects that require approval before that point in order to proceed in an effective matter. All five projects are to be funded through the City’s reserve and surplus accounts in 2021,” stated Anderson.
The items included a network switch and furnishings for the firehall, a cemetery expansion, repairs to the Middlesboro bridge and a SCADA computer.
