MP Albas votes to call treatment of Uyghur people a genocide
On Monday, MP’s in Canada voted 266-0 in favour of recognizing the ongoing atrocities against the Uyghur people in China as a genocide.
Central Okanagan Similkameen Nicola Conservative MP Dan Albas addressed the House of Common before the vote.
“Let there be no doubt, this is genocide. I will even go a step further to suggest this is literally a textbook example of the horror that is genocide. Let us make to mistake about that,” stated Albas.
“Ultimately I believe what we’re really here to debate today is this question, why does this Prime Minster refuse to stand up for some of the World’s most vulnerable people and rightfully call out and condemn this as genocide,” added Albas. “This Prime Minister for whatever reason refuses to stand up to the Chinese Communist Party Government.”
While the motion did not receive a single vote against, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet abstained from the vote.
“Today we can make that stand, or one can continue to sit in silence,” concluded Albas.
