Merritt Fire Crews are battling an overnight blaze at Aspen Planers in downtown Merritt.
Reports from the scene confirmed that all mill workers were able to evacuate the area safely as the fire broke out.
Crews were still on scene at 10:00 am.
Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson has confirmed to Q101 that the blaze was significant. Two fire engines, one ladder truck, and 21 fire fighters responded to the scene. Crews have the upper hand on the fire that involved both the mill structure and the chip bins.
This is the second fire at Aspen Planers this month, as Fire Crews were called out to the mill on February 9, 2021.
