NVIT elects new board chair
The Nicola Valley Institute of Technology has elected a new chair of the board of governors.
“Sashia Leung is a proud Wet’suwet’en, Chinese woman from the Witset First Nation. She was initially appointed by the Ministry of Advanced Education in late 2016. At NVIT, Sashia has served as an Executive member and on the Audit and Risk Management Committee,” states the press release.
“Her academic and professional work has focused on protecting and advancing Indigenous rights, nation and governance building, reconciliation, community engagement, and education. Sashia shares that the sacred responsibility to knowledge and our teachings passed down for generations have empowered her to breakdown barriers and create space for critical dialogue and shared understandings,” continues the release.
Leung was elected on February 8, 2021.
