Active Fire at Aspen Planers

Merritt Fire crews are currently on-scene at an active fire at Aspen Planers.

Crews arrived on scene shortly after 9:00 am Tuesday morning as smoke billowed from the soffit of the building.

As of 9:45 am, firefighters could be seen within the building and action on the ground was calm as the fire appears to be under control.

Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson has confirmed to Q101 that the fire was contained to the “Barker”. Twelve firefighters responded to the call and are still on-scene as of 10:30 am.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time,” stated Chief Tomkinson.

Merritt RCMP are blocking of the immediate area and residents are advised to keep clear of the area.

BC Ambulance was also on scene and standing by.
