In 2020, the Thompson Nicola Regional District and local area directors Herb Graeme and David Laird contributed $130,000 to the City of Merritt for the creation of four new pickleball courts. At that time the exact destination of the courts was not finalized.
Last week, during budget deliberations Recreation Manager Sky McKeown outlined the proposed plan to share space with the lawn bowling facility.
“We would go with a 90×120 which would be four pickleball courts on proper asphalt with line painting done, fencing, and factored into that is landscaping,” said McKeown.
The City of Merritt will be contributing approximately $26,000 to the project if approved by City Council.
