The BC Centre for Disease Control has released the latest Merritt specific COVID-19 figures, covering the week of January 24-30, announcing 24 new cases of the virus.
The surge in COVID numbers in the area comes as positive cases have been confirmed at local schools, grocery stores, and within the Upper Nicola Band in recent weeks.
In January, the BC CDC reported weeks of 10, 15, 15, and now 24.
Overall, the local area registered 64 cases in the month of January, surpassing the 39 seen in all of 2020.
For comparison, the Kamloops area saw 117 and Kelowna recorded 77.
