Two public hearings scheduled for Tuesday
Merritt City Council is scheduled to hold two public hearings tomorrow (Tuesday Jan. 26).
The hearings will be to consider proposed residential developments in Collettville as well as the Bench.
In Collettville, the conceptual plan of the development includes 98 townhomes, 95 mobile homes, and up to 180 condominium units in several low-rise buildings. The proposed development would be constructed in phases, with an expected build-out of 10 years.
A park dedication of 9.49 hectares (23.46 acres) is being proposed. This is substantially more than the Provincial requirement of 5% of the property area. The park dedication would be 45% of the property.
In the Bench, the applicant has submitted a conceptual site plan, which illustrates the potential location of the 32 townhomes and 72 apartment units, as well as the neighbourhood park. The two-story townhomes would be situated adjacent to existing residential, while the low-rise apartment buildings would be situated further south, away from existing residential.
Due to COVID-19, the hearings will be closed to in-person attendance.
The ways people will be able to submit to the hearing are:
- Written submissions. These can always be made to a public hearing, and they’re particularly encouraged at the moment. A written submission always has just as much weight as someone who speaks in person. City Hall has extended the deadline for these until 5 pm the day before the Hearing.
- Technology-based. The City is welcoming anyone who wants to submit video or audio recordings of their views, as a substitute for speaking in person They can use the cameras/microphones on their phones, tablets, webcams, etc. Or they can telephone City Hall (250-378-4224), and leave a voicemail for Greg Lowis or Don McArthur, clearly stating it is for the Public Hearing on the 26th.
- If a person feels that these ways don’t work for them, they’re welcome to contact Greg Lowis at City Hall about another way of sending a virtual submission
