MLA Tegart named to Liberal Election Organizing Committee
The BC Liberal Party’s Executive has announced the establishment of a Leadership Election Organizing Committee that will administer the upcoming leadership race.
The only current MLA on the committee will be Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart.
“I’m one of two caucus reps to the executive of the Liberal Party. Very please to take on that role and be asked to be on the leadership election organizing committee,” said Tegart. “Lots of work to do, we will start looking at what the rules are for the race and I know we’re going to have a lot of good candidates.”
Sitting on the committee removes Tegart from consideration for the top job, a role she never truly considered running for.
“No that did not even enter the equation,” said Tegart. “During the last election I was caucus chair and of course stayed very neutral and I will be required to do that also as I sit on this committee. I’m looking forward to an exciting process.”
The committee has been tasked with determining the timeline for the election, establishing the rules that will guide the race, and implementing the process by which members will elect the leader.
“As a party, we’re looking at renewal and we know as we look at the last election, we have some work to do,” added Tegart.
No timeline has been set for the election of the new leader.
