The Merritt Centennials closed out their three-game weekend on a sour note with a 3-1 loss in Prince George yesterday. Dustin Lebrun had the lone goal for Merritt, which garnered two of a possible six points in three weekend games. The Cents now have a four game homestand ahead of them, starting Friday against Vernon.

The Merritt Centennials have points in seven of their last nine games after a 3-2 loss in double overtime to open a three game weekend tonight in Prince George. The Cents trailed 2-0 going into the third period before Max Vallis and Regan Soquila scored in a 3:16 span to send the game to overtime. Nic DeSousa had the winner for PG at 2:52 of the second overtime period. Lino Chimienti made 23 saves in goal for Merritt while Alex Wright kicked out 33 shots for the Spruce Kings. The Centennials next game is tomorrow night in Quesnel. Our Q101 broadcast starts with the pre-game show at 7 o'clock.

A good number of Merritt residents made it to a four hour open house to discuss power last night. City Councilor Dave Baker says Hydro put on a good session to address the growing demand for electricity in the Merritt area. BC Hydro is upgrading the local transmission system and is looking at a number of options.

The Nicola Valley and District Food Bank manager is grateful for another show of generosity from within the community this month. Karen Flick says the recent Tim Horton's Smile Cookie Week was able to raise four thousand dollars for the cause. Now, Flick says people are being put on standby that the annual Fire Department food drive for the Food Bank is coming in a couple weeks. Flick is hoping to enlist a number of volunteers for the drive. People able to help, should contact the food bank at 378-2282 as soon as possible.

The Merritt Centennials have a chance to move above .500 for the month of October as they open a three game northern road trip in Prince George tonight. The Cents are 3-3-0-and-3 this month and can put some distance between themselves and Quesnel and PG with a big weekend. Merritt is sixth in the Interior Conference, two points ahead of the Millionaires and three points ahead of the Spruce Kings. Both the Cents and Quesnel have three games in hand on Prince George. Lino Keemienti gets the start in goal while Merrittonian Payton Schaefer has been called up from the Kamloops Storm as an affiliate player. Forwards Steve Wall and Evan Stack, and defenceman Reece Willcox are all out of the line-up with injuries. Tonight's game is a 6:30 pre-game show on Q101.
