New freshwater fishing regulations aim to stop the spread of invasive fish.
Policy and Regulations Analyst for the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Steve MacIver says the new regulations being introduced in April are designed to maintain sustainable angling opportunities for recreational fishers.
"We are proposing some regulations that will reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species like Perch and Bass. The new regulations basically state its an offense to even fish for those species, in the Thompson-Nicola regions."
MacIver says the new regulations are preventative and will not stop the current Yellow Perch threat at Douglas and Nicola Lake.
