Charge laid against driver that struck and killed a pedestrian in downtown Merritt.
A 92-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a pick-up truck while attempting to cross Voght St back on March 2nd.
As a result of the investigation into the fatal collision, Merritt RCMP Cpl Brock Hedrick now confirms a 67-year-old Merritt resident has been charged with driving without due care or attention.
He says its one of the most serious charges listed under the Motor Vehicle Act.
"Anytime there is a fatality involving a motor vehicle we're required to submit a report to Crown Counsel. We did that, and in this case a charge of driving without due care or attention has been approved."
Hedrick says witnesses on scene reported the elderly female was using the crosswalk when she was struck.
The male charged is scheduled to make his first appearance in court, in Merritt on Dec 4th.
