Efforts continue to begin expansion of the Merritt fire hall before winter.
Chief David Tomkinson says it will be tight, but the goal is still to get shovels in the ground in the coming weeks.
Before that can happen though, a call for tenders on the $2.2-million project still needs to go out.
"We've done as much as we can on site here to hasten the project and allow things to happen immediately. We are just at the mercy of the tender process at this time, and then that being awarded."
Tomkinson remains hopeful the tender can go out this month.
The 10,000 sqft expansion is expected to take a year to complete.
