Plans for a rainbow crosswalk at Merritt Secondary School on hold until at least next year.
While School District 58 has indicated they would fund the MSS Pride Club initiative, assistant superintendent Jameel Aziz says no requests were received in time to have something done before summer break.
"But, I do know that our group was invited to the Kamloops pride parade. They are either going to be leading or having a float in it. And, they are still actively participating in other activities at the school, it's just with grad approaching the group has kind of disbanded."
The idea for a rainbow crosswalk at the high school came after a request from the MSS Pride Club to have one painted on Coldwater Ave was rejected by the City of Merritt back in April.
The move was highly controversial setting off a wave of social media backlash, and support for the students in the weeks that followed.
