Merritt Councillor making the case for the province to step up and reopen the Exit 286 Visitor Centre.
Mike Goetz says the City of Merritt is not able to pay for improvements and fund operations for the Merritt rest area closed back in January.
And, with the move continuing to draw criticism from travellers, he believes its time the province admitted it was a mistake.
"Just leave a live cam up there for about an hour on a Saturday and see what happens. The province must take this over, this is their responsibility to the travelling public to do this. They ask enough in taxes."
Travellers continue to stop at Exit 286 despite the gates being locked, and there being no garbage cans.
Goetz is wanting the city to invite Premier John Horgan to see for himself the impact the closure is having.
