Another productive year for Crime Stoppers Merritt and Nicola Valley.
While exact stats are not being made public, Merritt RCMP Cst Tracy Dunsmore can confirm multiple people were paid for providing tips in fiscal 2017.
"People call in to the 1-800 number and provide tips. Then we determine whether it can be used to investigate a file. And, if the information is good, and leads to an arrest or seizure of stolen property, then we will give money to the person who provided the tip."
In the nine years since they became a society, Crime Stoppers Merritt and Nicola Valley has received roughly 400 tips, paid out more than $5,000 in rewards, and have recovered around $50,000 in drugs, and stolen property.
Tips can be made 24-hours a day by calling 1-800-222-TIPS, or online at www.bccrimestoppers.com.
