Provincial homeless count to take place in Merritt next month.
Vicky Paton of the Ask Wellness Society says the point in time count will look to identify the 'hidden' homeless in the community.
"What that means, specifically, we get to count people who are couch surfing, or people that don't pay rent. They are not on a tenancy agreement, they simply go from home to home, but are able to avoid staying on the streets."
It's the first time the 'hidden' homeless in Merritt will be tabulated, as the Homeless Connect conducted annually by Ask Wellness in October only looks to determine those who are 'absolute' homeless, and living on the street.
The provincial homeless count, which will also occur in several other communities, is scheduled for April 4th.
