City of Merritt approving funds to overhaul the Rotary Bike Park.
A grant-in aid request for $23,500 from the Merritt Mountain Bike Association was approved at last night's regular meeting.
Since the park was constructed in 2006, CAO Shawn Boven says little has changed, and the wear and tear is now creating safety concerns.
"The mountain bike association was responsible for the maintenance of the actual components, but they have simply reached the point where they are at the end of their lifecycle. They are all made of wood, and rotting. No amount of maintenance can repair that, they pretty much just need to be taken down."
The renovation of the Rotary Bike Park is expected to be completed in 2018.
