Concerns from the Upper Nicola Band over the health of Douglas Lake.
After both a fish-kill because of an algae bloom, and the possible discovery of the beginning of a yellow perch invasion last year, Chief Harvey McLeod says there is a lot of unknown surrounding Douglas Lake heading into the spring.
With the lake serving as the primary source of fish for the band, he confirms they are now working with the province, the Douglas Lake Ranch, and First Nations Health Authority to find out what can be done.
"Just to see if we can see what the problems are, and how big they actually are. The goal then would be to develop potential ways to mitigate them. For us, it's a huge concern, and we want to get to it as soon as the weather allows us to."
McLeod says water sampling at the lake is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
