Still another step to take before the City of Merritt can proceed with fire hall expansion.

CAO Shawn Boven says the bylaw necessary to borrow the funds will be presented for first reading next week, and 30-days is needed before it can be officially approved.

"It's a 30-day period for us to make sure everything is proper with the bylaw. Although, I will be encouraging the fire chief to put together a request for proposals for a project manager in the meantime."

Last month, through an alternative approval process, residents in Merritt approved the city borrowing up to $2.3-million for the 10,000sqft expansion.

With the design already completed, Boven says the hope remains construction can start in the spring.
